Over time, the eyelids can lose their elasticity, leading to drooping or bags under the eyes, which can create a tired facial appearance. A professional eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) can gently correct these changes and help you achieve a fresh, awake appearance. The procedure can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids and can also be combined with other treatments, such as a facelift or non-invasive procedures.
For a bright and fresh look
Before the procedure, we conduct a detailed consultation in which we discuss your individual wishes and expectations. Our experienced specialists will explain the exact treatment process, potential risks, and side effects. Your medical history and current health status will also be taken into account to ensure the best possible care and develop a personalized treatment plan. Careful preparation is essential for the best possible healing process. We recommend refraining from smoking and avoiding any blood-thinning medications for two weeks before the procedure to minimize the risk of postoperative bleeding.
We usually perform upper eyelid surgery on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. If joint surgery on the upper and lower eyelids is planned, we recommend short-term anesthesia. We make precise incisions along the natural eyelid creases so that they are barely visible after healing. Excess skin and fat deposits are selectively removed to gently tighten the eye area. In some cases, it may be beneficial to redistribute additional fatty tissue, particularly in the case of a lower eyelid lift, to achieve a harmonious overall appearance. The procedure typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes. Our specialized plastic surgeons use the most modern, gentle techniques to minimize scarring and achieve a natural result.
Please note: Eyelid surgery does not correct crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes.
Immediately after the procedure, a slight feeling of tension in the eyelids may occur. On the day of surgery, it is helpful to keep the eyes closed as much as possible and to cool them gently. Eye drops can help reduce swelling. The upper eyelids are usually swollen for seven to ten days, while the lower eyelids may take a little longer. Bruises will subside within two to three weeks, depending on the individual predisposition. After five to seven days, the stitches are removed, and makeup can be carefully reapplied. In the first few weeks, the eyes may water more frequently or become sensitive to light and drafts. To optimally support the healing process, strenuous physical work, exercise, smoking, and saunas should be avoided for two weeks. Contact lens wearers are advised to avoid wearing contact lenses for about two to three weeks. We will support you closely throughout the entire healing process and are available to advise you at any time.
As with any surgical procedure, eyelid surgery can also involve risks such as postoperative bleeding, infection, or temporary delays in wound healing. In rare cases, a lower eyelid lift may result in a temporary protrusion of the eyelid (ectropion), which usually resolves on its own. In a personal consultation, we will comprehensively inform you about potential risks and discuss how we can best minimize them.
The costs for an eyelid lift vary depending on the effort involved and individual circumstances – we would be happy to provide you with a personal quote during a consultation.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How long does the result of an eyelid lift last?
The results are generally long-lasting. Many patients enjoy the effects for ten years or more. However, the natural aging process continues, so the eyelid skin may change again over time.
